Donation helps woman find her voice

A donation helped a woman suffering cerebral palsy find her voice again when it bought a special speech machine.

A £3,450 cheque went to the Sequal Trust, which helps people with a range of disabilities lead more independent lives. It used the cash for a 53-year-old woman from Swaythling whose condition makes it hard to communicate.

 

Young and old fighting fit at martial arts club

Health, confidence and discipline are the benefits from Southampton Jitsu Club which trains adults and youngsters as young as nine. 

A donation of £2,640 has bought 22 new judo mats to replace the old and worn ones at the club's base in Upper Shirley High School. It is a boost for the organisers' aim of delivering fun self-defence classes in a safe environment.

 

Bring in the clowns to cheer up children in hospital

A grant of £1,500 helped to cheer up young patients at Southampton General Hospital with a troop of fun performers called the Giggle Doctors.

Dr Dovetail and Dr Scallywag are among the team organised by Theodora's Children's Trust who entertain youngsters and help them get through the stress of treatment with laughs, fun and magic tricks.
